My Review - 5 of 5 stars - 

I found this story to be truly entertaining. A story of secret love, unexpected expectations, and friendship. Juliana had agreed to marry an earl, Ian, but lost him before they could wed. She had a love for painting and sketching, not the usual pastimes for a lady, and knew well how to manage an household. When the new earl, Rafe, arrives, she faced her childhood friend and helped him get control of his estate. Due to his new rank in society, he wanted to protect himself so offered Juliana a choice. As their feelings for each other become more apparent, they had to make choices. I loved the support from secondary characters and loved that both Juliana and Rafe come to the realization at the same time. This was a wonderful story.

My Review - 5 of 5 stars - 

I truly enjoyed this story. A soldier learning how to be a Duke with the assistance of an intelligent woman of lower class. Claire chose to prepare Hart for his duties as a landowner, a Duke, and a member of the ton. I loved her independence, smarts, and perceptions. She couldn't see her true worth, but Hart helped her realize it. Hart was so unsuspecting of his new world, but it allowed him to do things that were not quite what everyone expected. A well-told story that had me turning pages. I look forward to the next in the series.

“If you don’t sign, I’m fired. If you call Nettleton & Thompson, I’m fired.” She threw up her hands in the air, barely keeping a grip on the contract. “So congratulations, you have me over a barrel.”
“Over a barrel?”
She rolled her eyes. “Helpless. At your mercy.”
“You don’t sound helpless, Miss Sutton.”
The heat trickled back in at the hint of admiration in his tone. Heat that only upped her irritation. How could she possibly be attracted to such an infuriating, self-absorbed man?
“I’m not helpless. I’m not a damsel in distress. Anika turned, her smile fading almost as soon as she saw him. Irritated, he shot her a cocky grin and raised his cup. She turned back to the clerk and pointedly ignored him as she signed the forms.
“Anika, I didn’t know you were coming on this excursion,” he said as she slowly walked over to him when she was done.
“Are you following me?” she asked as she stopped a few feet away, arms crossed. His eyes slid down to the curves of her breasts pushed up past the scooped neckline of her vivid red tank top. With her hair once again loose, a straw bag over one shoulder and blue jean shorts that showcased those long legs, she looked incredible. She followed his gaze, pink staining her cheeks when she realized what he was looking at.
“It’s rude to stare.”
He blinked, taking another sip of coffee to hide his satisfaction at the breathlessness in her voice. She felt it, too, this sudden attraction snapping between them.
“I apologize for staring.”
She tilted her head, her eyes narrowed. “Why do I feel like there’s a but in there?”
He grinned. “Because there is. But I won’t apologize for liking what I see.”
The pink deepened into a red that nearly matched the color of her shirt.
“Stop it. I’m not one of your conquests.”
“I’ve never seen you as a prize to be won.”
“Just my inn?”
Beneath the bravado, he heard the tiniest thread of something he hadn’t picked up on before. Fear. Anika started to fidget as he watched her, glancing off to the side then down at her feet before her head snapped up and she squared her shoulders.
“What?”
“I’m just trying to figure you out.”
“Well, don’t. It’s pretty simple. I don’t like you. I’m not selling to you. End of story.”
“Are you ready for the safety video?”
They both turned to see the clerk, who was standing just behind the desk with a wide grin on her face, her head swiveling back and forth as if she were taking in a tennis match instead of two people about to kill each other in her lobby.
“Yes,” Anika said quickly. She stalked past Nicholas and sat down on a leather bench in front of the TV. Nicholas debated for a moment before he sat next to her.
“There’s plenty of other seats.”
“So pick one,” Nicholas replied casually. “This has the best view and room for three or four people. I want to make sure I get all the safety information needed to enjoy this trip.”
She grumbled something under her breath that sounded suspiciously like how she was planning to murder him on said excursion, but he ignored it. The clerk hit a button on the remote, shot them another silly smile and walked back to the desk as images of turtles swimming through the ocean filled the screen.
“I think the clerk might be playing matchmaker.”
Anika snorted and he bit back a laugh. He didn’t know a single woman he’d dated who would have made such a derisive, uninhibited sound in his presence.
“Perhaps one of should tell her that has as much chance as a snowball in hell.”

I’m so excited for you to read Nicholas and Anika’s love story in An Heir Made in Hawaii. The kickoff of their romance in Kauai was based on my husband’s and my incredible honeymoon trip there in 2019. The island itself was a dream; so many places were untouched, just lush greenery and stunning mountains. The scene with Nicholas and Anika snorkeling is based off my favorite excursion with my husband, where we had a massive sea turtle swim beneath us on a snorkeling trip. My breath truly caught in my chest as I watched it move before looking out to the ocean beyond and feeling both small and in awe of what lay beyond the little corner we were exploring.
