“What are we doing, Pearse?” I asked quietly.

“I’m too old for you,” I said as gently as I could.

She pursed her lips. “I’m twenty-six. How old are you?”

“Thirty-six. Ten years is a lot. You should be looking for a guy without baggage.”

“And that’s not you?”

I huffed and looked out over the sand courts, unwilling to directly call Elise baggage, but that’s essentially what I was getting at. Paisley was old enough to babysit, but not to be a stand-in mom to a five-year-old. That wasn’t fair to Paisley. “You’re my daughter’s nanny.”

“Only for two more weeks, then I’m just your neighbor.” Paisley lifted her chin.

God, she was stubborn. And beautiful. And so f*ckin’ hot I wanted to toss all these rules out of my head and take what I wanted. What we both wanted. “We don’t even get along.”

Paisley shook her head slowly, her hand coming up to land directly in the middle of my chest. The gleam in her eyes was enough to have my knees trembling. “You keep telling me all the reasons this won’t work. If you’re scared, just say you’re scared.”

I leaned closer, my jaw clenched so tight I felt a headache coming on. I had been pushing Paisley away ever since I moved in. She taunted me in a swimsuit, in these tiny shorts, that ridiculous excuse for pajamas. Then she egged me on with her smart mouth. A man was only able to keep pushing away for so long. Eventually, his control snapped, and I was right about there.

“I ain’t f*ckin’ scared, Pearse.” My hands dove into her hair, skimming right past her jaw to get tangled in those strands. I tightened them into fists, pulling hard enough to make her whimper, but her eyes heated and she swayed so close her breasts were brushing against my chest. “You should be scared.”

“At last. I thought she’d never leave.” Alex turned to Emma, pulled her close, and sank his mouth down on hers.

When they finally came up for air, Emma’s head was whirling. “I thought you said we needed to rest.”

“I said we needed to retire.” He’d already begun pulling at his cravat, his gaze darkening when it fell on her. “Are you tired, my love?” Unbuttoning his jacket in record speed, Alex stripped it from his body and tossed it over his shoulder. “Do you need rest…or something else, perhaps?”

“B…but it’s still daylight.” She’d always assumed for some reason that marital relations were relegated to the hours of darkness, perhaps because they were too intimate to be done in the light of day. Maybe she’d been wrong about that.

Loud whistling and swooshing sounds woke me up this morning. I sat upright with a start, my heart racing. I heard howling (awooooo), scratching (chch-chch), and cracking (crk-crk). What could those noises be?

I hurried to my window, pulled open the curtains, and immediately saw that it was the wind blowing objects around to make all those sounds.

The sun’s rays warmed my face, and I smiled. The wind was blowing through the leaves and the branches of the trees.

Suddenly, a blast of wind whipped through the trees, and they shook and creaked rapidly.

Old, tall, and rigid trees jolted from side to side, groaning with resistance. Young, small, and flexible trees swayed freely with the wind rushing by. 

Leaves rustled and fluttered with excitement. Rhythm was all around! Could the trees be dancing and the leaves be waving? 

The trees were dancing! They were dancing in the wind! The leaves were waving–they were waving at me! All the leaves on all the trees were waving at me.

I waved hello to the trees. “Good morning, trees!” 

I greeted the leaves. “Good morning, leaves!”

I ran outside to join the trees. The wind was so strong it started blowing me away.

4 1/2 stars for me. This was a cute story, and I loved the genuineness of joy. The illustrations were well done. A nice story to read to a child at bedtime.

My Review - 5 of 5 stars - 

I was pulled into this story from the beginning. Roxy and Ghost heated up the pages almost immediately. I loved Roxy and her love for her granddaughter. She wanted to do all the right things to keep her safe. Ghost was used to doing things on his own, even put himself in between dangerous men, but Roxy had him rethinking his situation. The Serpents did right by both, despite the danger and distrust. One wicked ride ended up with an HEA for Roxy and Ghost. I highly recommend this story.

My Review - 4 1/2 of 5 stars - 

4 1/2 stars for me. I enjoyed this story. Keaton and Aslan were a power duo on the work front. Both had personal issues that were getting out of control. Keaton was trying to do the right thing for her family. Aslan was trying to avoid his mother. Circumstances pushed the two into a deal to help the other out. They tried to keep their hearts out of it, keep it business. Needless to say, things did not go smoothly. I was pulled into the story from the start, rooted for this duo, and had a couple moments of tears. Worth the read.

The narration of Jason Clarke and Mackenzie Cartwright made this story more enjoyable. I loved the inflections between the characters, by both narrators, as they showed the emotions of everyone.

I really enjoyed this story a lot. It touched my heart and had me crying in some places. Siobhan was intelligent, business-smart, and caring. She had a hard time, made a sexy mistake, and lost her heart. Her friend needed her, and she went, leaving behind her job and more. Iskander did not want to be in Luna Harbor, but with his brothers, he helped fix up the town. His chemistry with Siobhan was very flammable, but he did not want a forever connection. When she left, he could not stay away from her. I loved how he did everything he could to help her through her troubles and brought her home. Despite his facade, he was very loyal, confused, and had a bigger heart than he thought. I highly recommend this book as well as the series.

Once again, I had an opportunity to listen to the audiobook for this story. I really enjoyed "re-reading" this story, enhanced by the narration by Grace Grant and Gomez Pugh. They brought these characters to life and had me falling in love all over again.
