Will an innocent offer of help lead two obstinate hearts along the road to love?
Truitt Lucas is the guy who brings laughter wherever he goes and refuses to take life too seriously. Beneath his carefree exterior, though, he yearns for more adventure and excitement than he’ll find working on the family ranch alongside his cousin and grandmother. When the opportunity arises to assist a trick rider, Truitt eagerly lends a hand. However, he soon finds himself drawn to the perplexing woman who barely tolerates him.
Jolee Judson is living her dream as a trick rider on the rodeo circuit, using her lifelong passion for horses and gymnastics to wow the crowds. But when her partner unexpectedly abandons her, Jolee is just desperate enough to accept a good-natured cowboy’s offer to help. Fascinated and infuriated by Truitt and his shenanigans, Jolee struggles against her growing feelings for him. Falling for Truitt could spell disaster for her future and derail everything she’s worked for.
Can the two of them find common ground where trust is earned and love becomes a cherished gift?
A sweet holiday novel full of the magic of Christmas, Tricking Christmas brims with small-town humor, heartwarming moments, and wholesome romance.
Excerpt
Lark gave her a studying glance. “Never is a really, really long time. Anything can happen given the right circumstances.”
“Sure.” Jolee offered her friend a silly grin. “I’ll wake up tomorrow, and Truitt will be so madly in love with me, he’ll declare his undying affection, carry me off into the sunset, and we’ll live happily ever after.”
“Will that be on the road as Arena Acts, or do you have a specific place in mind?” a deep voice questioned as Truitt stepped around the back of the food truck, causing both Jolee and Lark to blush shades of red.
Lark hopped up and swatted his shoulder, then placed a hand to her chest. “You about gave me a heart attack, Tru. How long were you listening to us?”
“Just long enough to hear this one,”—he pointed to Jolee—“plotting my future. Do I get to vote where we live? Will we have two or three kids? Does the house have a picket fence and a front porch?” He grinned at Jolee as though her discussion with Lark had greatly humored him.
His jocular reaction to overhearing the conversation caused her to have the most intense desire to pop him in the nose.
Jolee wasn’t a person given to violence. She didn’t even have a bad temper. Yet, something about Truitt made her want to kick and punch and maybe stomp her feet a few times like a three-year-old in the throes of a tantrum.
“I should check on the horses,” Jolee said, no longer interested in her Arctic Spud. Before she could dump it in the trash, Truitt grabbed it from her hand and gobbled the last few bites.
“So good. No need to waste it.” He winked at her, then slipped an arm around Lark’s shoulders. “Actually, I’m starving. Troy and I worked through lunch and just finished stacking the last of the hay about an hour ago. He was going to take care of the irrigating early, then he’ll be here.”
