What do you do when your best friend runs off with your fiancée on your wedding day?
If you’re me, Lyon Elliot, you don’t get mad.
You get even.
Which means seducing my ex–best friend’s younger brother, Miles Halloran.
The quiet one.
The man I’ve known all my life but never paid attention to.
The one I was told to stay away from because he’s way too nice for someone like me. Maybe they’re right.
But see, this is where it gets a little more complicated.
Because the more time I spend with Miles, the more I like him.
Want him.
Now I need him and his sweet smiles in my life.
If this is still a game I’m playing…who’s fooling whom?
From Lambda-Literary award winning author, Felice Stevens comes a story of finding the love you never dreamed possible, from the person who was right in front of you your whole life…but never noticed.

“Sorry. I didn’t know you were coming.”
I ran my gaze over him, appreciating that once again, he’d gotten dressed up. This time he wore a gray suit with a blue-and-white-striped shirt and a dark-blue tie. His golden hair glistened in the overhead lights, and his cheeks were dusted with a darker-blond scruff. Damn, he was sweet and fucking hot, and I wanted another taste. This had nothing to do with Dan and everything to do with how amazing he’d felt in my mouth and arms the other night.
“I-I should’ve let you know, but it was a spur-of-the-moment decision.”
Will you walk into my parlor? said the spider to the fly.
The old poem I’d learned years ago popped into my head as I put my hand on his shoulder and smiled into his crystal-blue eyes. “My favorite kind. Follow me.”
I steered him toward my corner table, giving Victor a head tilt. With a shake of his head, he poured out a glass of red—the same vintage Miles had enjoyed the night he’d come for dinner—and brought it over. I refused to make eye contact with Victor, uninterested in his psychoanalysis of what I was doing.
We sat across from each other. Miles, his usual quiet self, studied me. I raised my glass of Scotch. “To a new beginning? Is that why you’re here?”
He rubbed the stem of his glass. “When were you first interested in me?”
Not the question I expected, but I was willing to go with it. Maybe he needed more reassurance I was attracted to him, and that wouldn’t be a hardship. “I guess I became interested in you around the time you were fifteen and I was getting ready to graduate from high school. I thought you were cute, especially in your bathing suit.”
“And you mentioned it to Dan, right?”
“Yeah. He was not having it.” I shook my head, remembering Dan’s fury when I told him I thought his brother was hot.
“He told you to keep away from me.”
Ah, now I understood. He was pissed at Dan. That I could get behind, but I could see there was something more behind his eyes—genuine sadness and anger. An unfamiliar emotion twisted inside me. Whether this was a game or not, I didn’t like to see Miles hurting.
“Yeah. I did it to keep our friendship, but I was stupid, wasn’t I?” On impulse, I reached over and took his hand, rubbing our fingers together. “I should’ve gone with my heart.” His hand in mine relaxed the tension coiled like a snake in my belly. It was nice sitting here with him, not drinking away the evening or gossiping about other people or even talking business. Dan was into partying, and Lindsey was all about scoring another contract to sell her tequila. Maybe we never scratched below the surface to find out who we really were.
Miles was different. He saw me—even saw right through me.
Funny how I didn’t mind.
