BETWEEN TODAY AND SOMEDAY
by Ann M. Trader
GENRE: Contemporary Romance
BLURB:
Prim Vreeland is an emergency department nurse, and after a string of disappointing relationships, her own heart needs life support. On a leap of faith, she moves home and is surprised when her brother’s best friend—and her secret childhood crush—has the same idea. As attraction sparks, she finds her usual steady footsteps treading on quicksand.
Sportfishing media influencer Chase Bova realizes it’s time to swap life on the road for hometown roots. When he crosses paths with Prim, she tangles his line, tying it in knots. Her charm reminds him why he’d steered clear of her years ago…and should probably do the same now.
As their irresistible connection turns into romance, questions of honesty and commitment linger. Will Prim and Chase dig deep for the courage to face their past and together, discover what really lies between today and someday?
EXCERPT:
Chase
As Prim regained her breath, she muttered, “Thanks, but it’s okay. I’ll just call the Auto Connection guys.”
I watched her fish her phone out of her bag. Her thumbs skimmed over the screen, and as caveman as it sounds, I didn’t like being tossed aside like moldy bread.
I stepped forward, closing my hand over her fingers. “I can change a flat tire.”
She lifted her chin. “I can, too.” But then her shoulders sank a couple inches, and she sighed. “I-I just don’t feel like doing it right now.”
I studied the way the wind ruffled her blue cotton dress and how her toes fit perfectly inside her cushiony flip-flops. She looked comfortable. Her limbs undoubtedly grateful for the space after being trapped in a uniform all day. I can relate. Hours in a kayak are a literal pain in the ass. Her blonde hair was in one long braid down her back, short wisps of hair clinging to her nape. I know something about perspiration-flushed cheeks, too. The part of me hung up on her ditching me Saturday night was silenced by my protective side.
I wanted to help her out of a jam. “Long day in emergency, huh?”
Prim nodded and dropped her phone in her bag. Her lips formed a thin line, then the bottom one began to quiver.
Shit. My eyes narrowed. “Was it worse? Was it a bad day?”
She met my gaze, sniffing.
Without thinking, I closed the space between us and wrapped her in my arms. Like at the wedding, she felt good pressed against me, as if she somehow belonged there. She trembled as she buried her face in my chest. I rubbed my hands in circles over her back until she went still. I didn’t know what to say, so I did what Grandpa taught me to do with emotional females. Keep my damn mouth shut.

My Review - 5 of 5 stars -
A bit of a slow start, but then it kept me turning pages. It was an emotional ride. Prim had such self-doubt that she had trouble taking a chance. Chase was so wrapped up in his tragic past that he almost let her slip through his fingers. A childhood love finally came to fruition, and I loved the journey for them.
