Nicola ran to John, a family friend, to avoid marrying a man with ulterior motives. Together, they went on the run, encountered several dangerous situations and people as they went, learned each other's secrets, and admitted to loving each other for a long time. Nicola was very strong, determined to protect her family, and solve the mystery of her betrothed's book. John was so protective but quite cautious because of his own background. I enjoyed the story.
