Book Review: Icebreaker (Gamebreakers #1) by Kat Mizera and Elise Faber

Blurb:

She hates me…

I’m going to make her fall in love with me anyway.

As captain of the SoCal Vipers, the last couple of seasons haven’t been going well. My stats are slipping, and I’m at risk of being traded.

So, I’m not in the mood for a case of mistaken identity with the woman playing bouncer at the arena door.

But when I find out she’s come to town to escape her controlling family and make a fresh start, I know I can’t just let her walk away.

I’ll do anything to make sure she’s safe.

And if that means claiming her forever…then all the better.

Because she’s mine.

Even if she doesn’t know it yet.

When the Game Breakers meet more than hearts will be broken…

They’ll claim, protect, and...maybe just rock their women's worlds.

Series tropes include:

• enemies to lovers

• mistaken identity

• starting over

• rags to riches

• protective MMCs

• found family

• and more...

My Review - 4 of 5 stars -

Aspen and Banks were interesting characters. Banks was very focused on his career, worried about being traded, which interfered with his actual playing. Aspen was determined to be independent with no support from her family and seemed to distrust Banks and his wealth, likening him to her own family. I understood her need to be self-reliant but rejoiced when she began to let him help her out. I was also pleased when he fully realized her need for that self-reliance and slowly showed her how to accept help. I did feel that the story was a bit longer than necessary, a bit too much daily detail, but overall, this was a good story.

I received a copy through Enticing Journey Book Promotions, and this is my unsolicited review.
