Apparently, the beautiful heiress had a bit of a problem with a stalker, and it was our job to follow her around and keep her safe, all the while I posed as her boyfriend.
“Hey, Lock. You’ve done this before. Maybe you should take it over,” I whispered.
“Are you kidding me? I’m married to a high-profile woman. I’m pretty sure the press would catch on if I stepped out with Wren.”
I hated that he was right. Still, I hated working close protection, especially for women like this. “Fine, but when this goes south and I murder her, it’s up to you to get me out of the country.”
“Sure, I’ll do that,” he snorted.
“I’m serious. I’ll probably end up killing her.”
He leaned in closer and whispered, “You’ll be married to her by the end of it.”
I held out my hand. “Wanna bet?”
He smirked and took my hand. “A thousand dollars says this woman has you wrapped around her finger in two weeks.”
“Two thousand says that I accidentally let her stalker through and kidnap her just so I can get rid of her without too much trouble.”
“Three thousand says I fire you before the job is over,” Cash boomed. “Her father is paying a lot of money. Don’t screw this up.”
I slouched back in my seat and frowned at the picture of her in the file. Maybe I’d get shot before we left on the job.
