An Agatha, Raymond, Sherlock and Me Mystery
by Marcia Rosen
GENRE: Cozy Mystery
BLURB:
A body is tossed into the lion’s habitat at the zoo where Miranda Scott is the senior vet. She and Detective Bryan Anderson join forces to unravel that mystery and several more murders. A fan since childhood of Agatha Christie, Raymond Chandler, and Sherlock Holmes they seem to live in her head frequently telling her what to do…and not do. Murders, family, deceit, revenge and a gangster father and godfather often get in the way of a fine romance between Miranda and the Detective.
EXCERPT:
“Get in the car,” Lillian Scott told Miranda, not too pleasantly.
“I have to go to the Zoo.”
“You have to go with me, unless you want to join John Lynch and his pal.”
“What? How do you know they’re pals?”
Sliding into the front seat of her mother’s messy Jeep, they drove on without either one saying another word for quite a while. There was little traffic as they left the Northwest part of the city and headed toward Santa Rosa and the Cedar Crest exit.
Their distress was palpable, each of them fighting the urge to scream at each other and drive anywhere else except where they were going.
“Oh dear, Miranda knows where they’re going. What do they want with her?” asked Agatha
“Chandler, you’re uncharacteristically quiet,” said Sherlock
“Don’t know enough to comment,” answered Raymond
“Well that has certainly never stopped you before.”
“True. I am just wondering how her mother knows the man tossed to the lions was a pal of John Lynch?”
Lillian Scott slammed on the brakes to avoid hitting a deer, jolting Miranda. “Why are you doing this? Since when are you still involved with my father and these people?
“Listen, love, I’m not thrilled with this either or with the idea of someone possibly wanting to kill you.” Lillian never did mince her words.
Miranda knew exactly where they were headed.
